The Tutoring Program’s mission is to tutor, guide and inspire native youth to achieve academic and character success. Our vision is that all students will be empowered to succeed academically and will possess the skills they need to realize their potential and achieve their hopes and dreams.

Our School-Year Tutoring Program serves students in grades K-12 attending Modoc Joint Unified School District (MJUSD) focuses on homework assistance and site based intervention aiding in the development and focus of Mathematics and English/Language Arts skills.

DESCRIPTION:       The Youth Tutoring Program provides a two prong approach to academic excellence.  The first avenue is a school site based intervention program, working with students on an individual and in a small group allowing the tutors to more intimately tailored their techniques to individual children.  Our seconded avenue is providing after school tutoring. We offer transportation from the school sites to the Center and then home after the program has concluded. Our tutoring center is located within a short distance from school sites making it convenient for the families we serve.

Parent Advisory Committee Meeting are hosted to review the annual funding agreement between Strong Family Health Center (SFHC) and Modoc Joint Unified School District (MJUSD).  During these meetings the group has the opportunity to review the strategic goals that are set forth for the program and give input on enhancements to the program and discuss needed services.  These meetings have been instrumental in allowing SFHC the unique privilege of having Accelerated Reader (AR) testing available onsite.  SFHC is the only satellite site to have this privilege.

At the beginning of each school year all enrolled Title VII students receive freely, the school supplies required by their school, specifically their teacher.  This provision provides students every opportunity to come to school prepared for success.  Additionally, throughout the school year incentives and awards are disseminated for good grades and character enhancements.  At the end of each year a celebration is hosted to acknowledge graduating seniors and eighth grade graduates.  Every student is acknowledged for either, academic promotion, accelerated reader accomplishments, traditional accomplishments and leadership or above and beyond character traits. This gathering is promoted and attended by the student’s families, teachers, leaders in the community and friends, thus complementing our mission and vision statements.

We strongly believe in empowering native youth through education and leadership.  We hope with each passing year to grow together and create a stronger and healthier community of Native people.
