Purpose
The SFHC youth represent the future of Modoc County Tribal Communities. The youth council is an important way to hear youth ideas for cultural activities and draw more youth into taking an active role in Tribal governance. The SFHC Youth Board meets monthly to address issues that concern youth in the community and youth involvement in SFHC youth activities. They then present their findings and/or recommendations to the SFHC Board of Directors.
Eligibility, Qualifications & Requirements
- The youth board consists of 5 SFHC youth clients ages 12-20 years from a diverse mix of tribal affiliations and families
- Each board member serves for a term of 3 years
- Nomination forms are distributed to all SFHC youth clients ages 12-20 years when positions are available
- Each youth board member will receive a stipend per meeting attended
- Limited transportation is available to youth board members who do not drive or who have transportation barriers
- Each youth board member is required to maintain a 2.0 GPA or higher
- Each youth board member is required to maintain good behavior in the community and at school
- Each youth board member is required to attend each monthly meeting, unless there is a valid reason for their absence
- Meetings are conducted using “Roberts Rules of Order” as well as SFHC’s “Guide to Effective Meetings”
- The youth board annually elects a Chairperson, Vice Chairperson and Recording Secretary
- The elected chairperson of the youth board attends the SFHC Board of Directors meetings to report and participate in an advisory role — the youth board chairperson does not have voting privileges
- The youth board shall conduct themselves in such a manner that will display a blend of professionalism and keen awareness of the traditions and culture of the Native American people and exemplify Strong Family Health Center
